Why This Course

In our homes, schools, and communities, we all come up against behaviours that leave us asking: Why? Why now? A child who melts down over something small. A student who checks out completely. A teen who just can’t seem to care.

The Shanker Method® 101 introduces the five Self-Reg practices — Reframe, Recognize, Reduce, Reflect, and Restore — the practical method for understanding what’s really going on beneath behaviour. You’ll see how excess stress changes how the brain and body function and how this method helps bring balance, connection, and learning back online.

Through stories, science, and reflection activities, Susan Hopkins (EdD) shows how Self-Reg shifts our focus from reacting to behaviour to understanding the stress behind it — in classrooms, early years, family life, and beyond.

This isn’t about managing kids or finding quick fixes. It’s about learning a process for seeing behaviour differently, reducing overload, and supporting real recovery.
