Why This Course

Some days in the classroom feel like whack-a-mole — one issue settles and another one pops up. It’s exhausting, reactive, and keeps us locked in managing moments instead of supporting learning.  The Look-Fors help us break that cycle.

They shift us away from focusing on individual behaviours and toward understanding the group as a living system — the patterns, stressors, and energy shifts that influence everyone in the room.

Instead of asking “What’s wrong with this student?” we start seeing:
What’s happening in the space? What’s happening in the group? What’s driving these waves?
And suddenly the noise makes sense.
This isn’t behaviour management.
It’s a Self-Reg lens grounded in neuroscience and the classroom dynamics.

It shows us where safety, belonging, balance, capability, or trust might be wobbling — and where one small adjustment could settle the whole room.
When we understand the dynamics underneath the behaviour, teaching gets lighter, students settle more easily, and we finally get back to the work we came here to do.

Inside You’ll Find

Six applied modules that use the Five Look-Fors as a lens, not a checklist. They don’t tell you what to do. They help you read the dynamics of the whole group by noticing the subtle brain–body shifts that shape behaviour, energy, and connection. This is the neuroscience of the classroom in motion—clearer, calmer, and closer to a Haven.

Module 1: Introduction – The Self-Reg Haven Lens
How the Five Look-Fors help you see the classroom as a dynamic neurobiological system, not a collection of individual problems. You’ll explore how stress states, energy levels, and relational signals ripple through a group and why understanding these patterns changes everything.

Module 2: Safe
How safety shows up across the room—physical, emotional, social, cultural. You’ll learn to spot tiny shifts in nervous system activation: the cues that safety is strong and the moments when it starts to thin, and what this tells you about the stressors shaping the space.

Module 3: Rooted
Belonging as a brain–body state. Who feels anchored in the group? When do those roots deepen or loosen? You’ll see how rootedness protects energy, reduces limbic tension, and fuels the capacity to learn and connect.

Module 4: Balanced
How balance emerges when stress across the five domains is manageable: steadier focus, smoother emotions, flexible thinking, cooperative peer interactions, compassionate responses. You’ll track how these signals rise and fall as students’ stress loads shift, revealing the classroom’s overall regulatory state.

Module 5: Capable
Moments when students feel capable—trying, persisting, risking, contributing strengths. You’ll learn how dips in capability often reflect depleted neural energy or rising tension, and what this tells you about co-regulation needs and environmental stressors.

Module 6: Trusted
How trust is expressed in the group—help-seeking, honesty, vulnerability, initiative. You’ll tune into the brain’s search for relational safety: where trust is solid, where it’s fragile, and how those patterns shape the emotional climate of the whole room.
